Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine in Dermatology
Laura Walsh, MD, PhD
Laura Walsh is a 3rd year Dermatology resident at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Born and raised in Washington state, she completed her undergraduate education at the University of Washington, graduating with honors in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Laura then went on to attend the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of California, San Francisco. She received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the UCSF-UC Berkeley Joint PhD Program in Bioengineering and her dissertation was titled "Nanotopographical cues for modulating fibrosis and drug delivery." She completed her intern year in the internal medicine program at Kaiser San Francisco before relocating to Chicago. During residency at Northwestern, she completed a post-doctorate research year (PGY-4) in the laboratory of Nathan Gianneschi with support of the T32 and was awarded a Dermatology Foundation Research Grant for her project titled “Follicularly Delivered Melanin Particles to Ameliorate Chemotherapy Induced Alopecia." After graduation, she will be joining the UW Medicine affiliated Valley Medical Center as an outpatient dermatologist.

Liza Siegel, MD
Liza Siegel is a 3rd year Dermatology resident at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Born and raised in New Jersey, she completed her undergraduate education at Penn State University, and received her M.D. degree from the University of Connecticut. She then went on to complete a residency in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she discovered her interest in Pediatric Dermatology. During residency at Northwestern, she served as the Medical Student Chief (PGY-3) and Scheduling Chief (PGY-4). Her areas of research interest include complex medical pediatric dermatology and inpatient pediatric dermatology. After graduation, she will be pursuing a fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Estimating the Environmental Impact of Dermatologic Surgery: A Single Center, Cross-sectional Waste and Energy Audit
Alvin Li, MD
Alvin Li is a 3rd year Dermatology resident at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. A California native, Alvin attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he graduated with honors with a degree in Neuroscience. He subsequently completed his medical school training at the Yale School of Medicine. After finishing a medical internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, he began his dermatologic training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he was elected VA Chief Resident in his final year. After graduation, Alvin will be pursuing fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, dermatologic oncology, and advanced cosmetic surgery at the California Skin Institute.

Parul Goyal, MD
Parul Goyal is a PGY-5 resident in the Internal Medicine-Dermatology program at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Born and raised in the metro Detroit area, she completed both her undergraduate education and medical school at Northwestern University. During residency at Northwestern, she served as the Med-Derm and CDS Chief Resident during her PGY-4 and PGY-5 years. Her clinical and research areas of interest include complex medical dermatology, oncodermatology, and inpatient consults. After graduation, she will be joining the academic dermatology faculty at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
Gamma-Delta T cell Lymphomas and the JAK/STAT pathway: From Bedside to Bench
Spencer Ng, MD, PhD
Spencer Ng is a PGY-4 Dermatology resident at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Born in Hong Kong and raised in Markham, Ontario, he completed his undergraduate education at McGill University. Spencer then went on to receive his MD and PhD in Immunology from Emory University, where his dissertation research focused on the development of novel cytokine-based immunotherapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. During residency at Northwestern, he served as Medical Student Chief Resident (PGY-3) and Academic Chief Resident (PGY-4). He is currently completing a post-doctoral research fellowship studying the molecular genomics of cutaneous lymphomas in the lab of Dr. Jae Choi. After graduation, he will remain at Northwestern as an Instructor before pursuing Dermatopathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY.
